Executive Director for Nursing Research HCA
Elizabeth Card, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, CPAN, CCRP, FASPAN, is honored to serve as ASPAN's 40th President. During the last 3 decades, she has worked in the PACU/holding room, cardiovascular and surgical int ensive care units , as a nurse manager/leader, family nurse practitioner, and nurse researcher. She joined Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN, in 1994; she currently is a research nurse practitioner for the Department of Anesthesiology and a nursing research consultant for Vanderbilt University Medical Center . She led the creation of Vanderbilt's The Empowered Nurse, an internal peer-review journal, and is the chief executive editor. Elizabeth is an ASPAN fellow, an ASPAN Joanna Briggs Institute scholar, and has served as ASPAN's Director of Research for two terms, as the evidence-based practice coordinator one term, and multiple terms on the standards and guidelines as a team leader. She is a past president of the Tennessee Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses. She led the ASPAN national burnout research study and ASPAN PACU assessment practices research study. She was a coinvestigator on the ASPAN Delphi study on pain and comfort, and the ASPAN Patient Complexity Index research study. She serves as a peer reviewer for the Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing, British Journal of Anesthesiology, and American Nurse Today. She has presented and published nationally and internationally on perianesthesia as well as advance practice topics.
