Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Practice
- Incorporate patient history and support systems into care planning
- Assess learning needs of patients and families
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with patients and families
- Recommend and execute appropriate nursing interventions
- Evaluate and revise care plans based on patient outcomes
- Provide age-appropriate care with demonstrated clinical competence
- Independently resolve moderately complex clinical issues
- Apply sound judgment in patient care decisions
- Participate in unit and facility initiatives
- Precept new employees and students as assigned
- Review preceptee performance with unit leaders or instructors
- Supervise LPNs, Nursing Assistants, Health Unit Coordinators (HUCs), technicians, and sitters
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Education: Meets licensure and certification standards; no specific degree required
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of professional oncology nursing experience
- Continuing Education:
- 16 contact hours annually (8 must enhance clinical expertise), or
- 12 contact hours annually plus ACLS or approved specialty certification
- Licensure/Certification:
- Valid Tennessee RN license
- Completion of fire/security, infection control, and CPR in-services
- Preferred: Experience in outpatient oncology infusion; ONS chemotherapy biotherapy certification
- Physical Requirements: Type A (per internal standards)

- Deliver age-appropriate care with demonstrated clinical competence
- Independently resolve complex patient, management, and physician issues
- Lead unit-level or facility-wide process improvement initiatives
- Provide 4 contact hours of educational activities annually (excluding basic patient education)
- Contribute to development and evaluation of unit orientation programs
- Precept new employees and students; attend formal preceptor workshops as needed
- Review preceptee performance with unit leaders or instructors
- Supervise LPNs, Nursing Assistants, Health Unit Coordinators (HUCs), technicians, and sitters
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Education: Meets licensure and certification standards; no specific degree required
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of professional nursing experience, including at least 1 year in oncology
- Continuing Education: One of the following annually:
- 20 contact hours (10 must enhance clinical expertise)
- 15 contact hours plus ACLS certification
- 10 contact hours plus specialty certification
- 10 contact hours plus ACLS instructor certification
- Licensure/Certification:
- Valid Tennessee RN license
- Completion of annual infection control, fire, safety, and CPR in-services
- Physical Requirements: Type A (per internal standards)
